Weekly Link Love – August 24, 2012

This week has flown by. The kids go back to school in less than two weeks, I start my new job in just over two weeks, triathlon season ends for us this weekend – it’s a very busy time! ot so busy that I can’t sahre some great reads from this week though.

I loved this article from The Free Financial Advisor, Getting Out of Debt is Not the Goal. I think one of the primary reasons Bruce & I haven’t made huge progress on our debt is we don’t have big goals that our debt is preventing us from reaching. It doesn’t bother us much, it isn’t holding us back, so we’re not super invested in getting gazelle intense and turfing it!

Free From Broke writes about the Five Habits Keeping us from Reaching our Goals. This was a timely piece for me, I know that #4, Refusing to take Risks is something I struggle with, although I’ve moved past that one this month. I’m also often guilty of #2, going with the flow (or being a people pleaser!).

This week at Budget Blonde, Cat talks about another type of budget – time. I know I have issues with getting everything done, but I also know it’s because I take on too much. For me, the biggest success I have with getting things done is making a task list. If I don’t see the task, it doesn’t get done!

Life, Comma, Etc. writes about Fighting Off the Blues this week. I’ve been there, and it’s not fun. All the tips listed here definitely help keep your mood up even when you’re feeling blue – diet and exercise are key!

Self-employment is not for everyone, which is what Michelle writes about this week at Making Sense of Cents. I know I’ve run my own business, and it was challenging; I’ve also worked for lots of companies and had bosses make me crazy. Maybe I’m not meant to work? Since that’s not an option right now… guess I’ll keep at it!

Leo at Zen Habits had a guest poster this week write about Building Strength in the Present Moment. Goals are wonderful, but what can you do right now, today? Take what you’ve done today, and repeat it tomorrow. From these small steps, you can build towards your goal. I really liked this piece.

And that’s a wrap for this week! Have a great weekend. :)

  1. I never used to think of “time” as the budget, but now I find that it’s my biggest nightmare. How do I make sure I’m getting to the important stuff? When I worry about that I begin planning to become a minimalist. If I have less stuff to take care of I won’t have to worry about time as much! Thanks for including my little post!

    • I find I’m constantly a) biting off more than I can chew from a time perspective, and b) stuff always takes way more time than I expected! It’s a work in progress. Happy to share your post, I think it made an important point, and helps me reframe the problem!

    • Well, here in Canada triathlon does have a season – from early June (when the ice is off the lakes!) to early September (when it drops below freezing overnight). Sadly, no, I’m not kidding….

  2. Thanks so, so much for including me in this list! I feel so honored! I’m glad you liked the post. I wasn’t sure if I should write it since it wasn’t PF related but I think some people enjoyed it. It’s very much appreciated!

    • You’re welcome! I do think it’s PF related though – failing to budget our time leads to impulse purchases. If I run out of time, I’m much more likely to grab takeout instead of cooking, costing me money!
